The La Bella ST30 set has become, without question, my favorite choice for my sitar in the Ravi Shankar lineage style.
These strings offer everything a good sitar set should have: excellent brightness, long sustain, clarity, and a responsive feel that brings out the full character of the instrument.
Compared to the typical unbranded Indian strings — and even compared to the very respectable Pyramid sets — the La Bella ST30 simply performs better. The tone is more alive, the sustain is richer, and the overall feel is more consistent across the entire set. For me, they are the best strings I’ve used so far and considering that I only change the full set roughly every two years, the higher price is absolutely worth it.
The main playing strings hold up beautifully over time, and for the sympathetic strings I always keep cheaper unbranded replacements on hand for the occasional breakage during those two years. Then, when the full cycle is up, I will replace everything with a fresh ST30 set again.
If you play sitar regularly and want a set that truly enhances the instrument’s voice, these strings are absolutely worth trying.
5 stars — highly recommended.
