Maddening Tin Drum
What drove me to the DT-770M ?
I use a Bose AE2w, wired to the Efnote 3X, without sound coloration via BT battery. Mp3 sounds a bit bleak, bass is smooth but a bit thin, with a really skinny bass pedal sound. The Bose is exceptionally comfortable to wear, with a very light flexible thin cable.
However, its passive noise suppression is moderate, I can subjectively hear 40% of the sticks hitting together.
This means I can also hear the hi-hat sound of the Efnote3X. If I press the upper platter against the lower platter with the foot pedal, the sound is like banging a garbage can. Of course, this is not mentioned anywhere in a YT review, as influencers don't want to annoy producers who sends their items as disguised advertisement, but rather not mention the problem to potential buyers. Withholding information is the worst kind of lie. And I act against it.
It is extremely annoying. Never again an e-drumkit with a double hi-hat plate. I have tried everything to reduce this noise of collapsing. In the end it was worth 155€ to me to buy the Beyer 770M with its noise reduction. With the hope of a slightly better bass pedal sound.
The first experience was .... extremely disillusioning, after 10 minutes I was on the website to send it back.
Noise cancelling compared to the AE2w, sticks crossing is about 35% loudness. So hardly any lower.
However, if you position the 770M towards the front by pressing it against the back of the ear cups, you will notice the real isolation kicking in, the noise is significantly reduced by up to 10%. With eyeglasses on your ears, you are back to 35%. The pressure on the ears is a little uncomfortable, but the folding sound of the hi hat plates is solved.
The sound of the bass drum is an impertinence, sounds like a tin drum. It has NOTHING in common with a real bass drum.
It's maddening.
Mp3 sounds closed as if you were sitting in isolation, in your little padded cell without a door or window.
It's not as if the 770M can't deliver a powerful, clear bass. On the contrary, you can clearly, almost painfully, feel the pressure of the low end of the snares and toms on your eardrums. Certainly no guarantee against hearing damage.
The cable is thick, heavy and stiff. It twists again and again, it does not untwist easily.
As I don't like sending items back, I tried to minimize the sound problems.
The Efnote 3X has some slight EQ functions, so I was able to almost achieve the better but still poor sound of the Bose on the bass pedal, by raising low frequencies, which made the sound muddy.
On my laptop I installed FX Sound, a very good free equalizer. EFnote3X is a controllable sound card on the PC, it's amazing how you can use it to improve music on the 770M. Crisp bass guitar, as I use bass players to keep a reference of the timing. On a smartphone, it doesn't work quite as well with the EQ from Musicolet.
I spend €150 every week to fill the fridge, so that's a low price for me.
The 770M is undoubtedly very robust, more robust than the DT-770 Pro 250 Ohm that my son has. However, the Pro can't even come close to the noise reduction of the 770M.
You have to put up with the rear pressure on the ear cups and the sound wave pressure of the toms in the closed housing.
Recommendable? Satisfied?
Twice absolutely NO
I am very frustrated of how a same sound of a same source turns out on different outputs. My Bose S1Pro served me as a reference, but also produced a muddy boxy Bass Drum and unclear cymbals
Treble and cymbals sound very good on the 770M, even slightly better than the old Bose AE2w without any equalizing settings.
We must obviously live in a stone age of speaker systems manufacturing when it comes to emulate natural acoustic sounds

Sehr viel schlechter als erwartet
Habe die Kopfhörer für mein Roland TD 25 E-Drum gekauft. Verpackung war gut, Tragekomfort OK aber der Klang...hätte niemals gedacht dass dieser so schlecht sein kann?! 1 Minute gespielt und direkt wieder eingepackt und zurückgeschickt... Mittlerweile wurde es ein Audio-Technica ATH-M50 X

Ziel verfehlt
Schon beim Auspacken mußte ich feststellen, daß sich einer der beiden Firmenlogo-Sticker die sich jeweils auf beiden Muscheln befinden, abgelöst hatte. Obendrein war er auch noch verbogen. Es scheint sich dabei um sehr dünnes Alu oder ähnliches zu handeln, das mit Kleber versehen wurde.
Desweiteren war schon nach wenigen Tagen ein Wackelkontakt in dem Volume-Regler am Kabel der linken Muschel aufgetreten, was natürlich meganervig war und ist. Dieser Wackelkontakt ist auch nicht auf unsachgemäße Handhabung zurückzuführen, da ich mit diesen teuren Geräten immer sehr behutsam umzugehen pflege.
Das schlimmste aber ist, daß ich diesen Hörer gekauft habe um ihn beim Trommeln einzusetzen, weil ich eine Alternative zu In-Ear-Hörern haben wollte. Und genau das funktioniert nicht. Ich bekomme durch diesen Hörer wirklich Mega-Bässe und ein unglaubliches Dröhnen aufs Ohr. So etwas hatte ich vorher noch nie erlebt. Bei keinem anderen Kopfhörer. Inzwischen habe ich ihn ausgemustert und verwende ihn nur noch für Standardzwecke wie Musikhören oder als Monitor bei Aufnahmen. Das geht alles tadellos, da der Klang ansonsten gut ist. Aber als Klick- und Lautstärke-Dämpfungskopfhörer hat er sein Ziel total verfehlt und das ist ärgerlich! Deshalb nur einen einzigen Stern.
